Not Done...But So Close

So I'm not entirely finished. I've been toying with decals and lighting. I couldn't get decals to work at first, but I got it now. I need to head to work now, but I'll finish everything tonight. I have door frames and wires that are almost ready to put in.

I believe after this class I'm going to go back to this room and change some things. There are more assets I want to model and a bit different layout I want this to have. I also have some extrea models for the table that I made but never had time to texture. I want to take your advice on the posters near the breaker box. It's funny how many ideas can spawn off of the simple suggestions you make. Sometimes some of the suggestions you made I thought of while staring at the renders. I think my mind is on the right track. I just need a few years of expirience I guess.

Thank you for all of you help and suggestions. You've made me not only improve my room but have given me some challenges along the way. If we're ever in the same place at the same time I'll take you to dinner, buy you a beer, or something.

I'll post some pictures if you want to grade the evaluation off of that. That way I can get it on time.

Here's where it stands:

  1. Looking awesome. I think given the time you put in and your experience, you've pulled off a nice piece so far.

Your use of decals on the walls and floor definitely make a good improvement. I really like how you made the water stain on the floor coming from the boiler.

To improve this piece, I would keep filling it up with assets and tweak the lighting a lot more. Some lights flickering in game would also make for some really neat visuals. As I mentioned before, the most important part in my opinion is to make the scene feel alive or as if its been lived in. Keep adding more character to the walls, floor and various objects and it will punch even more. Once you feel like you got it, go one step further. Rearranging the scene could also help as well. Keep experimenting with it. Don't always expect a good result on the first run.

As you keep producing more and more artwork, your gonna notice a quick advancement in your skills and it will become much more rewarding. Your definitely on the right track.. just keep producing and don't get discouraged. It took myself two years to find a decent job, but once you get your foot in the door.. your set. If you want, I'll gladly keep critiqing your work and I would love to hear some suggestions from you as well, with regards to my own work. It's always good to hear a great critique, as it will only help you get better.

Keep up the good work dude!!

A good friend and Professor once told me, "If you love what you do, then it's no longer work."
