Lowering Poly Count

That's what I was going for today. I think I did pretty well for most of them. The only one I'm a little concerned about now is the faucet. However, I'll wait until I texture it to see what I can do with it. Anyway, here's what they're at now (Left is the original, Right is the new one):

Breaker Box (Originally 92, Now 20)

Cigarettes (Originally 122, Now 32)

Faucet (Originally 284, Now 120)

Hammer (Originally 233, Now 113)

Screwdriver (Originally 237 and 226, Now Both 71)

Ladder (Originally 318, Now 104)

I also tweaked the pipe wrench (Originally 559, Now 156)

Let me know if I should go back and tweak them some more.

  1. Glad to see you've reduced your models down a lot. I do have a couple suggestions that might work a little better though.

Breaker Box: Maybe open the door slightly so you can see a couple breakers inside. You can just put another small box inside for the breaker panel and lay a quick texture on it. Just to provide a little interest.

Cigarettes: I like how you had a couple smokes kinda sticking out in the other model. Instead of having a straight box you could maintain your old silhouette and extrude a couple more faces in a similar shape.

Faucet: I like the handle in the other faucet you did... maybe try and maintain that.

Hammer: It needs a grip on it. Try extruding some faces on the lower portion and maybe put a curve in the grip to make it look a little more real.

Your models are looking great. It's just small tweaks that need to be worked out and you should be good to go ;)

  2. Thanks! It was kind of odd lowing the poly count. I never really had to do that before. It was good practice. I'll take your advice on those objects to fix them. As for the breaker box, the door can be opened. I think I'm going to have a few of them in a row and one of them will have the door open.
