Not Done...But So Close

So I'm not entirely finished. I've been toying with decals and lighting. I couldn't get decals to work at first, but I got it now. I need to head to work now, but I'll finish everything tonight. I have door frames and wires that are almost ready to put in.

I believe after this class I'm going to go back to this room and change some things. There are more assets I want to model and a bit different layout I want this to have. I also have some extrea models for the table that I made but never had time to texture. I want to take your advice on the posters near the breaker box. It's funny how many ideas can spawn off of the simple suggestions you make. Sometimes some of the suggestions you made I thought of while staring at the renders. I think my mind is on the right track. I just need a few years of expirience I guess.

Thank you for all of you help and suggestions. You've made me not only improve my room but have given me some challenges along the way. If we're ever in the same place at the same time I'll take you to dinner, buy you a beer, or something.

I'll post some pictures if you want to grade the evaluation off of that. That way I can get it on time.

Here's where it stands:

Nearing the end

The semester is coming to a close soon. I'm going to send my final evaluation form to you tomorrow. My semester officially ends next Thursday.

As for the room. I'm working hard at making the walls and floor look less tiled. I'm looking into material settings and decals to pull this off. Hopefully it'll look better when I'm done. So the walls and floors are the same right now. I did touch up some of the normal and specular on them. I placed in some light sources and I'm going to try and take your advice on the broken pipes. Busy, busy, week!!!

Back to work. In the meantime this is where I am.

Putting in more meshes

So I've been exporting the meshes that I have unwrapped. Even though the textures aren't done yet I've imported those meshes into Unreal and have started to place them. I really wanted a break from texturing. This is a nice way to mix it up a bit. The meshes in there right now just have Unreal's default texture on them.

Unreal 3

So I've been touching up on some textures. I think everything is starting to come together. I've also been working with Unreal 3. So far I've cut out the room and I'm starting to put stuff in it, mainly the staircase. So here's what I have so far:

I just through in some lights, I haven't worked on them. I also am working on the wall and floor textures.

Stair Work

So I'm pretty sure I'm almost done with the stairs. The look and feel is coming out the way I want. Just a little more detail work and I'll call it done.

And a video:

Base Texture Work

Well I'm trucking along on the base textures. Like I said before I want to put main textures on things so that it'll be complete. Then if there's time at the end I will go in and add more detail to the texture. I plan on continuing on this scene after this class is over so those details will come out.

Anyway here's some of my textures.

I'm still playing with color on things. Obviously I'm going to make the floor match the stairs. But I'm working on the rust layer of the stairs, then I'll cover it with metal and destroy it.

A Bit More.

This week has been a bit slow. It will pick up on Saturday. However I did manage to put more texture into the door. I'm not finished with it. I'm still trying to decide what kind of sticker to put on. I also want to fix the scratches on the door so they line up with the way the door handle will turn.

I also started work on the wrench. I'm pretty satisfied with both the door and the wrench. I think I may move on to more textures and come back over them once everything is done.

Unwrapping Done, Moving On

So I've unwrapped all of my models. I'm starting to move on to texturing them. Unwrapping took a bit longer then I thought but I should be alright. I'm going to take your advice and mix things up a bit when I put my final scene together. For right now here's the start of my door.

Modeling Mostly Done

All the models that I need are mostly done. There are some little touched that I want (light switches, bottles, tub, ect...). I've also decided to hold off on modeling the lights. I'm still not sure what type of lights will fit the scene best. The boiler is still being worked on for another class. Since it's the main focus of the scene I decided to make it more detailed.

So here's the scene so far. All together it's 7,788 Polys (15,323 Tris). If you take the boiler out it's 5,881 Polys (11,497 Tris). Let me know what you think!

EDIT: Looking at my scene again I noticed that my floor got rotated without me knowing. Some of the assets near the ground may look off. It's already fixed. :)

Lowering Poly Count

That's what I was going for today. I think I did pretty well for most of them. The only one I'm a little concerned about now is the faucet. However, I'll wait until I texture it to see what I can do with it. Anyway, here's what they're at now (Left is the original, Right is the new one):

Breaker Box (Originally 92, Now 20)

Cigarettes (Originally 122, Now 32)

Faucet (Originally 284, Now 120)

Hammer (Originally 233, Now 113)

Screwdriver (Originally 237 and 226, Now Both 71)

Ladder (Originally 318, Now 104)

I also tweaked the pipe wrench (Originally 559, Now 156)

Let me know if I should go back and tweak them some more.

Sunday

So I spent most of today in 3D Studio. Here's what I came up with:

Breaker Box (92 polys):

Cigarettes (122 polys):

Faucet (284 Polys):

Hammer (233 Polys):

Screwdrivers (Phillips 237 polys, Flat 226 polys):

and finally Ladder (318 polys):

The cigarettes are not on my original asset list. I added these for a small area in the room that I want to put together. I want it to seem like people have been down there. I'm thinking of setting up a "seating area" in the corner where janitors and maintenance men go to play poker. It'll add a few more models to my list but not many.

Wrench

I made a wrench.
